Paola Haeger

Paola Haeger is full professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the Universidad Católica del Norte-Coquimbo (UCN). She has earned her Ph.D. from the P. Universidad Católica of Chile and performed two postdoctoral training, one at the Universidad de Chile and another at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Her research is dedicated to unraveling the intricacies of molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie impaired hippocampal plasticity, memory dysfunction, and susceptibility to drug addiction in animal models of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). Currently, Paola is delving into the investigation of how prenatal alcohol consumption initiates early molecular changes in chromatin and alternative splicing mechanisms, which ultimately influence later brain function.
Paola has been actively involved in the scientific community, contributing significantly to the field of neuroscience. She served as a member of the executive committee of the Federation of Latin American and Caribbean Neuroscience (FALAN) and IBRO Latin America and PEW Latin American Fellow Program regional committee.

Paola Haeger es profesora titular en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Católica del Norte-Coquimbo (UCN). Obtuvo su doctorado en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile y realizó dos entrenamientos posdoctorales, uno en la Universidad de Chile y otro en el Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Su investigación está dedicada a desentrañar las complejidades de los mecanismos moleculares y celulares que subyacen a la plasticidad del hipocampo alterada, la disfunción de la memoria y la susceptibilidad a la adicción a drogas en modelos animales del trastorno del espectro alcohólico fetal (TEAF). Actualmente, Paola se adentra en la investigación sobre cómo el consumo de alcohol prenatal inicia cambios moleculares tempranos en el cromatina y mecanismos de empalme alternativos, que finalmente influyen en la función cerebral posterior.
Paola ha estado activamente involucrada en la comunidad científica, contribuyendo significativamente al campo de la neurociencia. Se desempeñó como miembro del comité ejecutivo de la Federación Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Neurociencia (FALAN) y del comité regional del Programa de Becas Latinoamericanas de la IBRO y de la PEW.
